Atlantic AgriTech Inc.

Introducing the newest member of the EPAA, Evan MacDonald of Atlantic AgriTech Inc. in New Glasgow, PEI.

Evan is the new owner of Atlantic AgriTech Inc., a research farm with over 30 years of history. Specializing in small plot replicated trials and on-farm trials, Atlantic AgriTech’s research focuses on potatoes, cereals, corn, and soybeans.

“The trials we do consist mainly of evaluating crop management practices, pest control products, varieties, fertilizers, biological solutions, and more.”

The farm, which has operated out of New Glasgow since 1991, will move to Evan’s family land in New Annan in 2025. This land holds sentimental value as it was farmed by his grandfather over 50 years ago.

Evan’s path to agriculture began with summer work on a dairy farm and evolved through his education and experience in mapping and geographic information system technologies. He realized his skills could benefit the agricultural sector, especially with the increased adoption of precision agriculture like GPS and variable-rate farming.

“As soon as I started working in agriculture, I knew it was what I wanted to do forever. I like to work outside and love to problem solve. As all farmers know, there is no shortage of issues to try and solve in this industry.”

When asked why he wanted to join the EPAA, Evan explained that he felt the group had a good mix of open-minded farmers who like to share ideas and aren’t afraid to try new ways of doing things.

“We need to ensure farming is both economically and environmentally sustainable for future generations. The work being done by the EPAA is aligned with those goals, and I am happy to be a part of it.”
